Looking for Volunteers

April 28th, 2008

Do you remember the READ posters with famous people on them?  How would you like to be famous?

I am working on a project over the summer to promote reading in all buildings.  If you have a favorite book and would love to share your passion for reading, please email me your name and title of the book.  We can get started on taking pictures and over the summer, I can make the posters to hang up in our school’s libraries.

Let’s show our students how fun reading is by showing off our favorite books.

Happy Winter!

December 6th, 2007

Sorry for the absence of posts as of late.  I have been running around from building to building plus conferences.  I hope all is well with everyone.  Please note some new and upcoming things for each school:

1. Karina did an AMAZING job with the book fair and we are going to be getting over 200 new books for the elementary library for FREE!

2. The middle school library will be getting more new books in a few weeks.  Plus, I was able to teach both 6th and 8th graders how to use netTrekker and how to best do online research.  I will be meeting with the 7th grade classes on December 19 to do that plus citing their sources.

3. The high school media center is taking baby steps in becoming a true media center.  I have ordered over 90 more new titles that should be in in January.  We are also starting a book club.  The first book to read is The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman.  I am hoping to have students in the book club record their review using Audacity and then posting their recordings as Podcasts through this very blog!

Please let me know if you need or want anything for the libraries and Media Center.

LOL,

New Books

October 20th, 2007

Hello everyone,

There are new books in all three buildings and you should send your students to check them out.  Heck, you should go check them out.  I am working on getting some more, but I thought I would let the accounts simmer down for a minute.

Next week, October 25 and 26, I will be attending the MAME conference in Traverse City.  MAME stands for Michigan Association of Media Educators and is so awesome.  I can’t wait to go.  This conference is attened by some of the best media specialists in the state and I am so excited to be a part of it.  One of my professors from WSU is going to give the final key note address and she is AMAZING!  She just exudes excitement.

I will be back on Monday, October 29, with even more ideas of how to really get kids motivated to read.

My schedule for the next few weeks:

Monday, Oct. 22 – high school

Tuesday, Oct. 23 – elem. school

Wednesday, Oct 24 – high school

Thursday and Friday, Oct. 25-26 – MAME

Monday, Oct. 29 – high school am/elem. school pm

Tuesday, Oct. 30 – high school

Wednesday, Oct 31 – high school

Thursday, Nov. 1 – elem. school

Friday, Nov. 2 – high school

Have a super week:-)
